Tunisia-The FTDJ accuses the Fakhfakh government of wanting to “sanction the media”

The Tunisian Federation of Newspaper Directors and its chairman Taieb Zahar accused the former head of government Elyes Fakhfakh of desiring revenge on the media amid suspicion of corruption that cost his resignation.

Moreover, according to information recently revealed by the FTDJ, the presidency of the caretaker government reversed the agreements concluded in May 2020 to help the press sector, especially the written press, in the face of the repercussions of the coronavirus crisis. , reports “La Presse”.

Also according to the federation, the former government informed the media that it reneged on the agreements of May 6, 2020, and more specifically Article 8 relating to aid granted to media companies to deal with the health crisis.

Taieb Zahar went so far as to say that the former government decided to cut the number of public newspaper subscriptions, “one last nail in the coffin of the print media,” as he explains.

“The government has decided to sanction the media sector, and especially the written press, which did not fit into certain political agendas”, he implied, calling for the preservation of press freedom in Tunisia, as one of the few achievements of the revolution and to hold the media against political tensions.
