Tunisia-The magistrates’ union will closely follow the work of the provisional CSM

The new president of the Syndicate of Tunisian magistrates, Aymen Chtiba assessed that the Superior Council of the provisional magistrature has become an undeniable reality. “The new office of the Syndicate will hadle with this council and will operate to defend the rights and interests of magistrates and seek to consolidate the effective independence of the judicial authority,” he told TAP.

But despite this acceptance, Chtiba confirmed that the union will closely follow the work of the provisional CSM, “to ensure the rights and interests of judges and move towards respect for legal and procedural guarantees, respecting the right of defence and confrontation in disciplinary and labour matters”. He also emphasised that the Syndicate of Tunisian Magistrates “is not in dispute with political power and will work to remove magistrates and the judiciary from any political conflict”. To this effect, he stated that the union has a clear line and seeks to be impartial and not to engage in political conflict.
