Tunisia – Towards salary cuts for employees in social funds on strike

The director of social security within the Ministry of Social Affairs, Nader Ajjabi, confirmed that the strike by the agents of the social funds is legitimate, because of the situation of ambiguity in which they worked without any particular status. But that it was against the law since no strike notice had reached the supervisory authority.

Ajjabi told a private radio that the law specifies that the strikers need to announce in advance, their strike as well as the beginning and end dates of their movement which is not the case, for the current strike.

Ajjabi added that the Presidency of the Republic has approved the text of the law on the special status of social security fund agents, but that it stipulates that it is solely applicable from January 1, 2023 which the agents refuse.

Ajjabi added that the agents who continue the strike so far are in the wrong and that the ministry intends to take their wages for the days not worked.
