Tunisia- Tunisia condemns French policewoman fatal stabbing

Tunisia strongly condemned Friday’s cowardly terrorist crime that targeted a French policewoman at her workplace in the French city of Rambouillet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad said in a statement Saturday.

Tunisia renewed its rejection and total condemnation of all forms of terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations.

It offered sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased and the government and people of France.

On the other hand, Tunisia affirmed that such “isolated and perverse acts» cannot be justified and have nothing to do with the true Islamic religion and its tolerant teachings. This is besides, their coinciding with the Holy month of Ramadan, the month of righteousness, mercy and tolerance, according to the statement.

Earlier, Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi expressed Tunisia’s solidarity with France, after the fatal attack on a policewoman.

The Foreign Ministry did not indicate in its statement the identity of the attacker, who, according to French media and police reports, was a Tunisian resident in France legally and unknown to the security and intelligence services.

He, on Friday, stabbed a French policewoman upon her return from a lunch break, twice in the neck.

The attacker was shot by police and later died.
