Foreign Minister Noureddine Erray particpate d on Tuesday, in a meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) donor group for Palestine by videoconference, which was chaired by Norway’s Foreign Minister.
Erray emphasised, in his address, Tunisia’s principled stand backing the demands of the brotherly Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
These carry their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent and sovereign state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with the recognised resolutions of international legitimacy, the Arab peace initiative and the two-state solution.
Erray asked on donors to proceed to support the efforts of the Palestinian Authority to maintain its national institutions and support the Palestinian economy, particularly in view of the spread of the COVID-19.
He declared the pandemic has intensified the distress of Palestinians and worsened their already hard living conditions due to the Israeli occupation, its acts of aggression and its policy of confiscating the tax revenues of the State of Palestine.
“It is imperative to provide financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to alleviate the financial crisis from which this UN body is suffering,” the Foreign Minister stated.
Erray pointed out that “while economic support provides to the resolution of the conflict, it can in no way be an option to the process of political resolution of the just Palestinian cause and issues relating to the final solution”.
The Foreign Minister called on the international community to respond instantly to address Israeli menaces to annex certain Palestinian territories.
“This step is a serious threat to Palestinian rights and the principle of the two-state solution and jeopardizes the chances of achieving a just and lasting peace,” he added.
The meeting was attended by the Palestinian Prime Minister, the Foreign Ministers of the main donor countries, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and representatives of the European Union, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
