Haykel Ben Mahfoudh, Professor of Public International Law, was sworn in to join the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ceremony happened on Friday, March 8, at the ICC headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands.
It’s significant to note that Dr. Mahfoudh was elected on December 6, during the vote held at the 22nd session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, which established the ICC. Tunisia signed the Rome Statute in 2011. Dr. Mahfoudh’s term will last for 9 years, and he is the first Arab judge to serve in this international court since it started operations in 2002.
