Tunisia-Tunisians and COVID-19: Situation is serious according to 88.7% of Tunisians

Tunis Survey, a specialist in digital studies, has just uncovered the results of its latest wave of online survey on Tunisians and the Coronavirus.

This self-administered online survey intends to examine how the Tunisian regards the current situation, as well as the role, executed by the state in the fight against the coronavirus. This survey was carried out from 06 to 08 October 2020 and reached 1421 respondents.

This new wave of a survey carried by Tunis Survey reveals that Tunisians are more concerned than ever about the country’s health situation.

Certainly, 88.7% of respondents believe that the current situation is serious.

 

Tunisians are concerned and sceptical about the state’s management of the health situation:

  • 86.7% of those surveyed consider the state is unprepared to identify high-risk cases.
  • Regarding the management of suspected cases, 89.4% of respondents believe that the state is not ready.
  • 83.3% believe the state is unprepared for the management of confirmed cases of infection.

 

Tunisians who are rather aware and well informed:

  • 92.9% say they know the preventive measures to take.
  • 76.6% say they know what to do with a suspected case.

 

Inadequate protocols, poor communication and unavailability of drugs and other devices to deal with the Coronavirus:

  • 64.5% of those questioned find that health protocols (in schools, universities, transport, etc.) are not suitable.
  • 45.6% of respondents deplore the poor quality of communication from the Ministry of Health.
  • 74.5% of those surveyed said that drugs and other medical and paramedical devices are not available.

Lockdown and border closures as solutions?

  • More than half of those surveyed (57.3%) believe that a lockdown is an effective solution to fight the Coronavirus.
  • 62.8% of respondents say closing borders is an effective solution to fight COVID-19

To finish on a positive note, around 2/3 of respondents believe that Tunisia can win against the Coronavirus.

 

During the first week of October, several governorates declared a curfew and some went so far as to close educational establishments to curb the spread of the virus.

If the Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc, the government will have to announce more drastic and courageous measures.
