The UGTT declared the mobilization of all its capabilities, as well as the means of pressure it possesses, to stop any intervention in Libya, from the Tunisian soil whether its Turkish, American or any other.
In a declaration published by its Executive Committee on Sunday, the UGTT vowed to “pull all forces together and exercise all means of pressure to halt (any attempt to) draw Tunisia into the axis policy”.
It called on all levels of authority to adhere to a stand of rejection of any alignment and to defend the country from any involvement in the destruction of Libya and the massacre of its people.
“The UGTT’s position,” the announcement said, “comes at a time when the menaces are growing: Tunisian politicians have become involved in the support of one side or the other, in addition to reports by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) unveiling a plan to use Tunisian territory for US intervention in the Libyan conflict.
The UGTT calls, in this respect, on the President of the Republic and patriotic MPs to “offer a legislative initiative banning anyone, whatever their position and their strength, from dragging Tunisia into the axis policy against the interest of Tunisia, our Libyan brothers and peoples in the Arab region”.
It also asked on the Tunisian authorities and in particular the President of the Republic, who is constitutionally empowered, to take all security and sovereign measures to ensure the protection of the borders and prevent the movement of terrorists to and from Libya.
The point is not to repeat the criminal experience of sending thousands of young people to the hotbeds of tension and conflict, it added.
The UGTT repeats its refusal of any foreign intervention in Libya which it considers a direct attack, calling for the necessity to force an inter-Libyan settlement to the crisis through dialogue which must be prefaced by the cessation of all hostilities.
“The situation in Libya is worsening after the direct intervention of various countries and the transfer of thousands of terrorists who have suffered severe setbacks in Syria”, laments the UGTT.
This dangerous situation constitutes a direct warning to Tunisia in terms of its territorial integrity, security, and economic and social situation warns the UGTT.
