Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, regional health director of Beja Ilyes Ammar evaluated the progression of the health situation in the region.
The official reported that infection by the Delta variant was recorded in Beja following the publication of the results of the genome sequencing. Underscoring its rapid spread, Ilyes Ammar stated the discovery of the Indian variant of the Coronavirus explains the deteriorating epidemiological situation in the region.
He said that nearly 80 died from Coronavirus in June, a record number of deaths since the commencement of the pandemic. According to him, 100 Covid patients are admitted to the Beja regional hospital while other patients have been transported to Beja and Bizerte hospitals.
In order to overcome the health crisis, Ilyes Ammar called on citizens to be vaccinated while highlighting the necessity to respect the restrictive measures decreed by the authorities, including general lockdown.
