Turkey-Deaths toll of Izmir earthquake soars to 55, wounds 896

The death toll from an earthquake in Turkey’s Aegean region increased to 55 on Sunday, according to Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

The country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority announced that  850 aftershocks with 40 stronger than magnitude-4.0 that followed.

Search and rescue activities proceed to search for survivors under debris.

At least 896 people were wounded Friday when a magnitude-6.6 quake jolted Izmir.
