UN: Rafah offensive would be devastating

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Tuesday that an “all-out” Israeli offensive in the southern Gazan city of Rafah would have “devastating consequences” for the Palestinian civilians. He stated the “core of the humanitarian system” in the Gaza Strip is currently located in Rafah.

“I am particularly worried with the deteriorating conditions and security for humanitarian aid delivery in Gaza. There is a breakdown of public order. At the same time, we have restrictions imposed by Israel that have not improved and limit humanitarian distribution,” Guterres said ahead of an UN Security Council meeting, expressing hope for the success of the ongoing ceasefire negotiations.
