The death toll in the US from the coronavirus has exceeded the 55,000 marks, according to Johns Hopkins University on Monday.
The running tally totalled 55,118 deaths and 972,969 cases.
The US continues to lead worldwide cases and deaths from the virus. Italy registers 26,644 deaths, followed by Spain with 23,521
