The United States secured China’s support for a United Nations vote on an artificial intelligence resolution, Axios reported on Thursday. The first AI resolution in the history of the UN should be tabled later today at a meeting of the General Assembly.
According to anonymous diplomats, the US, which sponsored the resolution, “accepted comments and tweaks to the text from 120 countries.” The resolution notes the “urgency of achieving global consensus on safe, secure and trustworthy artificial intelligence systems,” urges equitable access to new technologies, and calls on the private sector to respect human rights in AI development, among other points.
