Using AI to decipher ancient Egyptian manuscripts

Artificial intelligence (AI) specialists at Sber, Russia’s largest bank, are in discussions with Egyptian specialists to apply their AI technology to decipher ancient manuscripts. This initiative, founded on Sber’s “Digital Piotr” technology, could open up new perspectives in the understanding of ancient Egypt.

Alexander Vediakhin, first vice-president of the board of directors of Sber, said talks with Egyptian colleagues were underway to deploy the algorithm that was already employed to decrypt the notes of Russian Emperor Peter I. This partnership could lead to significant historical discoveries about ancient Egypt.

Cooperation between Sber and Egyptian experts will be further examined at the AI Journey international conference on artificial intelligence scheduled to take place in Moscow from November 22-24.

This initiative is part of Sber’s vision to explore different work formats in Africa, as previously mentioned in October. Nevertheless, the rapid development of AI is also raising concerns about its implications, with figures like Elon Musk highlighting its potential as a “threat” to humanity.
