Who is the Hamas leader assassinated by IDF in Beirut?

The Palestinian movement Hamas confirmed today, Tuesday, the assassination of Palestinian leader Saleh Al-Arouri and two commanders of the Al Qassam brigades in the blast in the Al-Musharafiyeh neighbourhood, in the southern suburbs of Beirut. 

Saleh Al-Arouri is a prominent Palestinian political and military leader. He is the vice-president of the political bureau of the Islamic resistance movement “Hamas”. He directly contributed to the creation of the “Al-Qassam Brigades”, the military wing of the movement.

Born in the village of Aroura, in the Ramallah district, in 1966. He was apprehended by Israeli forces and spent several years in Israeli prisons. Al-Arouri set the military apparatus of the Hamas movement in the West Bank in 1991, which contributed to the effective launch of the Al-Qassam Brigades in the West Bank in 1992.

In late 2017, the Hamas movement declared the election of Al-Arouri as deputy head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Ismail Haniyeh, during the movement’s Shura Council.

Palestinian leader Saleh Al-Arouri was assassinated this evening in the explosion in the Mushrifiyah neighbourhood, in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

The Lebanese news agency has confirmed that an Israeli drone targeted a Hamas office in Mushrifiyah, south of Beirut, causing some deaths and injuries.
