One person was killed and at least seven people are missing following a crash of two Japanese military helicopters, NHK reported.
Contact was lost with the two helicopters during a nighttime military exercise “to counter submarines at night.”
Japan’s Defense Minister Minoru Kihara stated that rescuers “spotted what is believed to be part of the aircraft in the sea,” causing them to believe the two choppers crashed. Kihara underscored the cause if the accident remains unknown and stressed the authorities are focused on finding the missing crew members.
