5.3-magnitude earthquake hits Hokkaido, Japan

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit northern Japan early on Thursday, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported, however without announcing tsunami warnings or reports of infrastructure damage.

The epicenter of the shake was located in the Soya District of the country’s northernmost island of Hokkaido at a depth of 10 kilometers.
