AFCON 2024 – Gr E: Tunisia and Mauritania Play Out Stalemate in Friendly Clash (video)

As the expectation for the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) heightens, Tunisia and Mauritania engaged in a friendly game on January 6, 2024, in Rades. Both teams, gearing up for the tournament in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, played to a goalless draw in an encounter that carried substantial weight for the Eagles of Carthage.

For Jalal Kadri, the dual mission of rehabilitating himself from his earlier performances,  having been far from convincing, and of reassuring the large Tunisian sporting public before the start of the AFCON, has so far failed.

Mauritania, positioned as an outsider with the ambition to challenge favourites and potentially book a spot in the round of 16, showcased their determination in the friendly clash. Coach Amir Abdou’s strategic approach and the team’s aspirations add an element of shock to the tournament narrative.

It should be remembered that Tunisia’s second friendly match against Cape Verde, scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, will also take place in Radès but behind closed doors and will not be broadcast on TV.
