Algeria relies on local shoe production and stops imports for year

Ali Aoun, Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production in Algeria, revealed that no imports of shoes have been made for a year, a move sought to back and promote the national industry.

During a visit to the Getex group’s production unit in Chéraga, Aoun underlined the significance of improving factory efficiency to meet local demand and making Algerian products competitive with imports. This endeavour is part of the instructions of the President of the Republic to fix the problems of local factories.

The Algerian minister also stressed the necessity for an intensive advertising campaign to improve the visibility of locally produced shoes, which already profit from the preference of Algerian consumers for their quality and affordable price.

Aoun also insisted on the importance of modernizing production tools and reinforcing worker training to ensure efficient and less laborious production.
