Arrests after student lost his eye: head of state closely following case

The Minister of Education, Mohamed Ali Boughdiri, stated that his department is following the developments of the serious incident which happened in a school in Sfax which resulted in the detention of a teacher and the director from the school. Remember that a student lost an eye after a classmate touched him with scissors…

Boughdiri voiced his solidarity with the victim and his family and indicated on National Television (Wataniya 1) that the head of state, Kais Saied, is also following this file for which he talked with the Minister of Justice and the prime minister. The minister expressed that he is relying on Justice to appropriately handle this matter, safeguarding the dignity of teachers while protecting the rights of the child and his family.

Remember that the events took place at the end of last February in a primary school in Sfax. The victim’s mother, who is in first grade, told Mosaïque FM on February 27 that the school principal only reached her an hour after the incident. According to him, the administration immediately called the mother of the attacking student to get her son back.

The victim’s mother added that the director suppressed information about this serious incident from her and attempted to downplay it by assuring her that her son’s attacker had hit him with a pen. When she arrived at school she was shocked by the extent of the injury, according to the mother…

The General Federation of Basic Education disputes this version of the facts and declares, through a press release, that the educational staff complied completely with the procedures in this matter. The Federation took the arrest of the school director and the teacher very badly, it declared an in-person general strike on March 14.
