Australia: Prime Minister condemns pro-Palestinian rally in Sydney

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese strongly denounced a pro-Palestinian rally held the day before in front of the Sydney Opera House, lit up in Israeli colours as a sign of solidarity. He said: “There is nothing to celebrate in the loss of innocent lives,” referring to the continuing conflict in the Middle East.

Following the deadly attack launched by Hamas on Saturday, hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through the roads of Sydney on Monday evening before heading to the opera house. There, they lit smoke bombs, shouted anti-Semitic slogans and held banners with powerful messages, such as “Where there is apartheid, resistance is justified”.
