CNN host has vicious on-air row with politician brother about who is mother’s favorite

Broadcaster Chris Cuomo’s eyes appeared to fill with tears during the cutting argument with his brother Andrew, who is the Governor of New York State. Tuesday’s argument began when Chris, 49, asked Andrew, 62, about a mooted curfew to try and halt the spread of coronavirus, with Andrew responding: ‘Curfew, I don’t like the word curfew. Dad tried to have a curfew for me. I never got past the resentment.’ Chris, who was chatting to his brother via satellite link, then interrupted him to say: ‘That’s the least of your problems, just so you know.’ But Andrew refused to let his curfew resentment go, telling Chris: ‘Well you violated the curfew all the time, caused much pain. But that’s a different story.’

Chris then responded ‘I don’t believe in rules,’ before delivering a barbed compliment to his brother, telling Andrew: ‘I love you, I’m proud of what you’re doing. ‘I know how hard you’re working for your state, but no matter how hard your working, there’s always time to call mom. ‘She wants to hear from you. Just so you know.’ Andrew hit back by claiming to have called his mother just before coming on air, only for Chris to interject ‘Not what she said.’ Chris then made the argument super-personal, telling his brother ‘By the way, she said I was her favourite,’ with his brother instantly snapping back ‘She never said that.’ But Chris continued with the insult, adding: ‘Good news is, she said you were her second favourite. Second favorite son, Christopher.’ Chris could be seen shaking his head, before answering: ‘No. We both know neither of us are mom’s first or second favorite in the family. ‘I can’t believe you’re lying to my audience. You’ve blown the credibility of the entire interview, I should have ended it before.’ But Andrew clearly enjoyed knowing he’d wound his brother up, telling him: ‘Second-favorite son. Listen to the words.’

The cringeworthy interview ended with the brothers confirming that they loved one another, and has since been widely shared online.
