Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra revealed on Friday he had handed in his resignation to the King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander, adding in his resignation statement that he will start “preparing for work in Brussels.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen nominated Hoekstra for the position of EU commissioner for climate action earlier this week.
