Special Counsel David Weiss charged a former informant for the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with lying in 2020 about US President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden’s involvement in business dealings with Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings Ltd., CNN reported.
Alexander Smirnov, arrested Thursday, is facing charges related to lying to the FBI and creating false records. If the charges are proven true, this will undercut a big part of the Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into Biden. Smirnov allegedly informed the FBI of meeting with two Burisma executives in 2015 and 2016 who admitted that they hired Hunter Biden to “protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems.” The executives supposedly bribed Hunter and Joe Biden with $5 million each.
