The French government dissolved on Wednesday French Muslim charity BarakaCity, government officials announced, amid soaring strains in the country following the murder of a teacher earlier this month.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin affirmed on Twitter that the NGO was closed during a Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday.
Darmanin explained the move over the NGO’s alleged relations to the “radical Islamist movement” and its “revelling in justifying terrorist acts” – accusations BarakaCity has denied.
In the same context, Turkish media outlet Daily Sabah said the founder of dissolved BarakaCity, on Wednesday, said he and his team wish to seek asylum in Turkey to continue their humanitarian work.
