Khemaïes Zayed: In 10 years the country will no longer have doctors, and how can we stop French, German vacuum cleaner, etc.?

Yesterday, Wednesday March 20, we reported to you regarding the massive exodus of Tunisian physicians towards more lenient skies, with 1,325 departures in 2023. Khemaïes Zayed, the president of the Tunisian Union of Free Exercise Physicians, returned this Thursday to this profound trouble which will cost the country dearly. He voiced that the shortage of practitioners is already hitting Tunisia and the worst awaits us in the next 10 years…

“Currently the majority of doctors operating in hospitals are 50 years old or over. There are between 400 and 500 graduates each year but at the same time, hundreds leave the country. In the medium term there will be no more doctors in our hospitals,” declared the president of the Union of Free Exercise Physicians on Mosaïque FM…

He added that contrary to popular belief, low pay is not the primary cause of the emigration of young doctors. “For the medical procedure to meet standards, practitioners need a peaceful environment, security, quality infrastructure, and well-equipped hospital establishments, we are very far from this,” he indicated.

Finally Khemaïes Zayed invited all stakeholders in the medical sector to organize a meeting to put remedies on the table in order to save what is still savable. But this will not be easy given the power of French, German, etc. attraction, with all these visas flowing like hot cakes…
