GOP leader Kevin McCarthy, nominated in a fourth round of voting that should determine the next House speaker, failed to secure the majority of votes again on Wednesday as the stalemate over electing a speaker entered the second day of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, the House Democratic Caucus unanimously supported New York lawmaker Hakeem Jeffries as the Minority Leader in the lower congressional chamber, winning 212 votes.
