Myanmar’s military seized power on Monday in a coup against the elected government Aung San Suu Kyi, who was confined along with other leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party in early morning raids.
Myanmar’s army has seized power due to the government’s failure to review voter fraud in last year’s general election, the nation’s Myawaddy TV military television declared.
The commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, General Min Aung Hlaing, is set to take over, the announcement said. It revealed the military invoked a state of emergency in accordance with the constitution and went on to denounce the nation’s ruling party for holding the elections amid the coronavirus pandemic in the first place.
