The International Court of Justice in The Hague said Friday it would issue a verdict Tuesday in Nicaragua’s lawsuit accusing Germany of breathing the 1948 Genocide Convention by supplying Israel with weapons it employs in Gaza.
The court stated it would deliver its decision on April 30 at 3 p.m. (1 p.m. GMT).
Nicaragua had requested the tribunal, the United Nations’ highest judicial body, to inflict emergency measures to stop Germany’s supply of arms to Israel, among other things.
Both sides presented their arguments at a hearing earlier this month.
Nicaragua criticized Germany for its support for Israel and said providing weapons to the Israeli government while providing aid to Gaza was “unfortunate and demeaned with contempt.”
For its part, Germany replied that Israel’s security is “at the heart” of its foreign policy, stating Nicaragua has “grossly misrepresented” its provision of military aid to Israel.
It should be noted that Nicaragua has asked five temporary measures, the most important of which is that “Germany immediately suspends its aid to Israel, in particular its military aid, including its military equipment.”
