Only 7% of smartphones in Tunisia are compatible with 5G technology

Data from the National Telecommunications Authority (INT) regarding the landscape of devices in Tunisia indicates that eight out of ten Tunisians own a smartphone.

Out of the 12.3 million communication devices possessed by Tunisians, 8.9 million are smartphones, constituting 73% of the total devices in the country. The remainder is divided between traditional phones and tablets. In the period between September 2022 and September 2023, the number of smartphones in Tunisia underwent a 3.7% increase, while the numbers for traditional phones and tablets decreased.

Within the 8,919 thousand smartphones in the country, 445 thousand are unidentified concerning supported technology (5%). Similarly, 739 thousand smartphones are compatible with 3G (8%), 7,122 thousand with 4G (80%), and 612 thousand with 5G (7%). Notably, in comparison to September 2022, the number of 5G-compatible smartphones increased by 1.3%.

It’s important to clarify that the distribution of smartphone percentages by technology is not directly related to the coverage provided by operators for each of these technologies. Instead, it reflects the number of compatible smartphones among the subscribers of each operator.
