Russia calls for UNSC emergency session

Russia sent a message to the members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) regarding the strikes conducted on Houthi targets in Yemen, as stated in a post on Telegram by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations.

The message requested an emergency meeting of the UNSC to discuss the validity of the resolution which condemned attacks on vessels in the Red Sea adopted by 11 countries, while Russia, Algeria, China and Mozambique abstained from voting. This document was adopted before the strikes conducted in Yemen, with Moscow being concerned over the resolution serving as a pretext for “unleashing hostilities” in the region.
