Sisi highlights complexity of delivering aid to Gaza through Rafah

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sissi voiced, this Wednesday, February 28, 2024, his hope of soon attaining a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and starting“real aid” for its residents.

Speaking at the “Capable Despite Differences” event at the Al-Manara International Conference Center in Cairo, Sisi rejected claims that Egypt had closed the Rafah crossing, the only point of Gaza border crossing with the outside world, underscoring Egypt’s commitment to ensuring that Rafah remains a route of assistance.

Regardless, he emphasised the complexity of providing aid in a conflict zone and mentioned obstacles, notably Israeli ones, without closing the way.

These statements come in a context where US President Joe Biden predicts an imminent truce after about three months of devastating war launched by Israel against Gaza, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries, mainly children and women.
