Spain coach resigns after World Cup elimination

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) decided on Thursday not to renew Luis Enrique’s contract after four years of service with the national team. Spain lost dramatically to Morocco on penalties at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday, with Enrique taking the blame after the match.

The RFEF released an official statement online thanking Enrique and his coaching team, adding that “the coach earns the love and admiration of his collaborators in the national team and of the entire federation, which will always be his home.” Under-21s boss Luis de la Fuente will replace him.
