Walim Merdasi, an expert in waste management and adviser to the former Minister of the Environment and Local Affairs told a private radio that the capital risks undergoing the same fate as Sfax which lives in recent times an unprecedented environmental crisis.
Borj Chekir landfill has nearly reached saturation point and will soon no longer be able to take any more waste, he added, calling for solutions to be found as soon as possible so as not to make the same error as in Sfax.
Among the solutions offered by the expert, the creation of a controlled landfill and a recycling unit in the Mhamdia delegation (Ben Arous governorate) before Borj Chakir landfill is closed.
