Tunisia: 18 sub-Saharans in prison for illegal stay

The court of first instance of Tunis has issued an arrest warrant against 18 young illegal immigrants from sub-Saharan countries, for illegal stay.

According to Mosaïque FM, a security campaign targeted many locations in the capital Tunis, including abandoned buildings, which led to the detention of 18 young Sub-Saharan Africans who entered Tunisia illegally.

They were put in detention and brought today before the prosecution of the court of first instance of Tunis, which decided to issue committal warrants against them and to direct them to the criminal court to answer the accusations against them.

The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) called on Monday for a humanitarian response to the refugee situation in Tunisia.
In a press release issued on its official page, the FTDES reaffirmed the necessity to guarantee the rights of migrants and their dignity.

The  FTDES voiced concern about the situation of refugees in Tunisia, indicating that it had obtained several testimonies from refugees expelled to the Algerian and Libyan borders during this cold period in addition to the arbitrary arrests of migrants in the governorate of Sfax.
