Tunisia-Italy urges Tunisia to return to “democratic normality” through inclusive dialogue

Italian diplomacy responded through a statement published on its official website, to the latest announcements by Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed. Italy states it is satisfied with the announcement of the reform process and has voiced its willingness to support the nation, for the achievement of the aspirations of the Tunisian people, though insists that this takes place through inclusive dialogue, with the participation of various political orientations.

Below is the text of the press release:

Italy has taken notice with an interest the announcement by Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed concerning the launch of a process of political and constitutional reforms and deadlines which should lead, as expected, to parliamentary elections. Italy invites the Tunisian authorities to continue the path towards the full restoration of the rule of law and democratic normality through an inclusive, transparent and substantial dialogue with all the political and social parts of the country while guaranteeing the full respect for fundamental rights and promoting stability and economic growth.

Italy remains at Tunisia’s side and, in the spirit of the traditional friendship between the two nations, will continue to provide all potential support for the full realization of the aspirations of the Tunisian people.
