Tunisia-200 Tunisians evacuated from Ras Jedir crossing border

Two hundred Tunisians were evacuated from Libya via the Ras Jedir border crossing . Other evacuation operations will follow in the next two days, said Mustapha Abdelkebir, president of the Tunisian Observatory of Human Rights (OTDH) in a statement to the TAP agency.

Among the returnees are women, children and elderly persons who have been stranded for several days in challenging circumstances on the Tunisian-Libyan borders because of measures correlated to the battle against the spread of the coronavirus, he emphasised.

He told the delay in repatriating these Tunisians is due to the severe security measures established at the Ras Jedir border crossing in view of the crisis in Libya and the importance of checking the identity of passengers, especially since some of them did not have passports.

It also resulted from health measures relating to the medical examination of passengers as well as logistics related to the transport of returnees and the setting up of self-isolation centres that will accommodate them, the same source added.
