Tunisia: 40 surplus public companies; 48 deficits

This week, the Ministry of Finance published the net results of 88 public companies out of the 114 public companies in Tunisia for 2021.

According to the data, 40 public companies acquired a surplus in consolidated net results, with a total value of 577 million dinars (MD).

Some of the notable results include:

  • The Chemical Group of Tunisia: Surplus of 133 MD
  • National Board of Tobacco and Allumettes – RNTA: Surplus of 97 MD
  • Office of Merchant Marine and Ports: Surplus of 61.6 MD
  • CPG: Surplus of 47 MD
  • Pharmacie Centrale: Surplus of 45 MD
  • Tunisie Telecom: Surplus of 32 MD

On the other hand, 48 public companies registered a deficit in consolidated net results for 2021, totalling 1.7 billion dinars. Some of the companies with notable deficits include:

  • Office de Céréales: Deficit of 477 MD
  • Transtu: Deficit of 225 MD
  • OACA: Deficit of 173 MD
  • ETAP: Deficit of 139 MD
  • SNCFT: Deficit of 137 MD
  • Tunisian Trade Office: Deficit of 120 MD

Overall, the 88 public companies analyzed registered an overall deficit of 1.8 billion dinars during the 2021 financial year, representing a 62% improvement compared to the 2.9 billion dinars deficit in 2020. This improvement is attributed to the surplus recorded in the consolidated net results of the mentioned 40 public establishments.

It’s worth mentioning that 15 public companies have not yet published their 2021 financial statements, 7 other establishments operate in the financial sector, 3 are social funds, and one company saw its activity interrupted.
