Tunisia-Abdellatif Mekki: We need to resort to internal funding means given the impossibility of counting on external resources

Health Minister Abdellatif Mekki hailed the solidarity of Tunisians in fighting the coronavirus, asking for the necessity to employ internal financing means, especially in view of the impossibility of relying on external funding.

During a ceremony arranged on Sunday at the Pasteur Institute office to pay tribute to the donors who donated to the battle against the COVID-19, Minister  Mekki stressed that the country can no longer have the chance to borrow from international institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), except under circumstances that could threaten the national sovereignty and hurt middle and poor social classes.

“We need to resort to internal financing means,” said Mekki, calling on public, private and civil society actors to resolve economic difficulties with internal financial resources.

Furthermore, the minister further spoke about the predicaments associated to health insurances and public and private health regimes, asserting that studies directed for the reformation these sectors had been carried by the Ministries of Health and of Social Affairs.
