Tunisia-Adoption of bill on extradition of criminals between Tunisia and Algeria

The organic bill endorsing the agreement on the extradition of criminals between the Tunisian and Algerian governments labelled No. 2023/18, was adopted on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the House of People’s Representatives . The vote registered 124 in favour and two abstentions, with no opposition.

The bill comprises a sole article, which approves “the convention on the extradition of criminals between Tunisia and Algeria, inked on December 15, 2021, in Tunisia, and annexed to this organic law.”

Throughout the deliberation, MPs emphasised the importance of this legislative initiative and its role in reinforcing strategic cooperation between Tunisia and Algeria, particularly in addressing shared challenges, notably security concerns. They highlighted the need for increased coordination to confront issues such as terrorism, smuggling, and organized crime at the mutual borders, and stressed the importance of delivering wanted individuals to justice.
