Remarking on the latest increases decided by the government, like the increase in fuel prices two months apart, Lotfi Riahi, president of the Tunisian Organization for Informing the Consumer (OTIC) confirmed that these increases weigh heavily on the purchasing power of the citizen.
Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Riahi declared that the Tunisian consumer is suffering from one day to the next and that he is incapable to meet all his needs. “We are living in an extremely tough economic situation. We anticipate the government to announce new decrees to reduce the pressure on the citizen and therefore preserve his purchasing power, such as the revision of the tariffs at the level of the electricity bill, gas, the electricity bill water (…)”, he said.
Riahi also added that “We hope that the administration of Najla Bouden finds concrete solutions to overcome the economic crisis in Tunisia.”.
