Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, constitutional law professor Mouna Kraiem revealed that the President of the Republic holds presidential immunity throughout his term of office. Once the term of office is over, immunity then becomes applicable only to acts conducted in the exercise of his functions, she added, emphasising that complaints against the head of state will come to nothing.
It should be remarked that Ennahdha MP Bechr Chabbi party yesterday lodged a criminal complaint against the President of the Republic, accusing him of having conducted a coup d’etat. A gesture condemned by the Islamic party which said in a statement released yesterday that this complaint goes against the guidelines of the political crisis management committee within the movement, which has exclusive authority in the matter.
