Tunisia – Ben Smida: The products for which 5 doctors and pharmacists are detained are not narcotics

During his telephone intervention in a program broadcast on national radio, Thursday March 21, 2024, Adel Ben Smida, secretary general of the Union of Dentists, condemned the decision to apprehend 5 physicians and pharmacists for possession, consumption, and sale of narcotic pills, as well as the death of psychiatrist Mohamed Al-Hajji, while he was behind bars, revealing that the drugs that had been presented to the patient and the tests showed them were not classified as narcotics.

Ben Samida called for the necessity to review the laws and modify certain chapters regarding the interrogation of doctors in cases related to their profession, indicating that it was possible to consult the competent authorities, such as the Council of the Order of Doctors and affiliated commissions, to the Ministry of Health and verify the accusation before deciding on arrest.
