Tunisia-Tunisia will lose all its doctors within ten years

The president of the Tunisian Union of Free Practice Physicians, Khemais Zayed, spoke on a private radio today, Thursday, March 21, 2024, about the potential that Tunisia will lose its physicians within ten years in light of the challenging situation that the sector is undergoing in the current period, after the continued flight of the exodus of doctors, who numbered 1,325 in 2023.

Zayed clarified that the decline of the working conditions of doctors in the public and private sectors is among the major reasons for the migration of more than 1,300 doctors from Tunisia in one year, remarking that the doctor needs continuing training to develop, which he does not find in Tunisia, in addition to the violence directed against health professionals in Tunisia, which has grown in the recent period, according to him.

He also spoke of the decline of hospital infrastructure in Tunisia, which contributed to the migration of doctors from Tunisia, calling for the necessity to examine the problem of overcrowding of hospitals.

Zayed called for the need to sit down with all parties implicated in the sector and impose a collective dialogue to guarantee comfortable conditions for doctors, he said.
