Menzel Bourguiba (Bizerte governorate) yesterday saw a painful accident ending in the loss of an 11-year-old student from a piece of bread, according to school principal Fathi Kbatni.
According to the same source, the student choked in the classroom and in the attendance of his teacher on a piece of bread that he had swallowed. He was immediately was transported to Menzel Bourguiba hospital, which is only 500 meters from the school, and admitted to the emergency department of the hospital where he received first aid.
The child regained consciousness and even talked with family members who had accompanied him to the hospital. Still, his condition suddenly worsened after the doctor marked a decrease in oxygen levels in his body, which necessitated his transfer to Habib Bougatfa Hospital where he died.
