Tunisia – Council of Ministers: No word on scorching issues of the high cost of living and the situation in Sfax!

The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, chaired the Council of Ministers on Thursday. A broadly anticipated council, across the country, in particular, with the anticipation of hearing measures, even promises, in relationship with the resolution of some problems, which are, in the opinion, even, of the head of the state, notably urgent and are priorities for the government.

It involved, among others,  the environmental crisis in Sfax and the high cost of living. For the first file, the president had discussed it during the last council and had delivered solid instructions. It is for this reason that the Sfaxiens hoped and waited for Thursday council to be able, finally, to breathe. However, nothing at all! No word was spoken in the council concerning their ordeal.

The Sfaxians were desperate, knowing full well that the president had not overlooked their problems, they might assume that he had to give up in the face of his administration inability to find or implement a speedy solution and probably it is with the feeling of hopelessness and of those who have been abandoned to their fate that the Sfaxiens risk falling back on the battery of demonstrations. They have even begun to take over the flooded streets of their city today and these protests are likely to increase, and we should, all the same, be wary of the wrath of the Sfaxians. It would be enough to ask the predecessors!

The other urgent issue, is the high cost of living, and the inability of Tunisians to cope with small everyday expenses, was also neglected on Thursday? And no action has been taken to relieve the burden on citizens. But, on the opposite, they were shocked to hear the president urging them to put their hands in their pockets and donate money to help the state!

At the end of today’s Council of Ministers, Tunisians could have the painful feeling of being in front of a government serving the president’s agendas, and not listening to their concerns, and finding answers for them!
