Tunisia: dam reserves have not exceeded 32% of their capacity

Abdessalem Saïdi, Central Director of Sonede confirmed that the water resources available in the dams at the ending of September 2022 have not surpassed 32% of the overall storage capacity of these works, located at 759 million m3.

This situation results from seven successive years of drought and from the absence of policies for rationalization of water consumption in a country which is below the threshold of water stress.

He indicated that the average share of water per capita in Tunisia, evaluated at less than 450m3/year, should drop to 350m3/inhabitant/year by 2030.

Saidi has, again, clarified the water situation in Tunisia by the irregularity of precipitation and the rain deviations between the regions (an average of 1500 mm in the north and 100 mm in the south).
