Tunisia-Douz: Military medical unit begins operation for COVID-19 patients

The military medical unit and mobile laboratory, on Sunday, began their operations in Douz.

They were inaugurated on Saturday by the Directorate General of Military Health of the Ministry of National Defence, as part of helping the national effort against Covid-19 Pandicm , reports the TAP agency.

The medical unit has begun to accept patients from Kebili, for open consultations in the specialities of pneumology, virology, paediatrics, medical imaging, emergency medicine and general medicine.

Furthermore, the military mobile laboratory has started to examine tests carried out by the SAMU teams of the Kebili regional hospital and specialised units of the Douz health district.

The laboratory has now received 23 samples, 10 of which were taken from persons who have experienced rapid tests, 10 from new subjects and 3 from medics. This mobile laboratory works as a reference laboratory.

It enables rapid on-site analysis of SARS-CoV-2 screening tests, with a range of 100 to 150 tests per day, and up to 200 tests if the epidemiological situation demands it,” the head of the virology department at the military hospital, responsible for the mobile laboratory, Colonel Major Mohamed Ben Moussa, said to the TAP.
