Tunisia- EU following referendum process closely

The High Representative on behalf of the European Union issued a statement on Monday, July 11 concerning the referendum on the draft Constitution in Tunisia which will take place on July 25, 2022.
 

“The EU continues to follow the political process closely, including in the run-up to the 25 July vote,” said the issued statement.

The EU likewise takes note of concerns raised with regard to the proposed draft published on 30 June and the process of its elaboration.

The European Union restates its position in favour of an inclusive national dialogue a cornerstone of any credible constitutional process and long-term stability.

“It is essential to bring together the widest possible spectrum of political and societal actors in addressing the political, economic and social challenges the country is facing,” reads the same source.

In addition, the European Union voices readiness to continue to support the consolidation of a democratic acquis, as well as the reforms needed to sustainably improve the socio-economic situation.

“The strength of the EU-Tunisia partnership rests on shared values and a commitment to democratic principles, individual freedoms and the rule of law, separation of powers and independence of the judiciary”, adds the same source.
