Tunisia-Farid Al-Alibi: “President of Republic’s speech in Italy characterized by revolutionary character on several levels…” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, thinker and researcher Farid Al-Alaibi offered insights into President of Republic Kais Saied’s speech delivered during the Italian-African summit.

He remarked that Saied’s address had a revolutionary tone, especially in its treatment of the Palestinian issue and international relations and even at the level of the issue of illegal immigrants and how an approach should be materialised to this problem.

Our speaker contextualized this speech within a political trajectory that has been developing in Tunisia since the December 17 uprising, reaching a climax on July 25. He elaborated that Saied’s comments represent a new direction in Tunisian politics, underlining equality among nations in rights and justice in international relations. According to Saied, African countries should not stay marginalized but must assert their full rights.

Discussing the Palestinian issue, he stressed that President Saied views it as a major concern for Tunisia, insisting on the liberation of Palestine “from the sea to the river.”

Concerning the issue of illegal Tunisian immigrants, he reported that President Saied has repeatedly pointed out the exploitation of Tunisian and Sub-Saharan African illegal immigrants by local and international mafias. With Tunisia becoming a transit point, Saied calls on the Italian administration to address the immigration issue from a humanitarian perspective.
